Trade-off informed adaptive and robust real options water resources planning

چکیده

Planning water resource systems is challenged primarily by two realities. First, uncertainty inherent in the predictions of future supplies and demands due for example to hydrological variability climate change. To build societal resilience planners should seek enhance adaptability robustness system interventions. Second, developments typically involve competing interests which implies considering trade-offs synergies implied highest performing combinations development options useful. This work describes a real based planning framework that generates adaptive robust design alternatives able consider trade-off different goals. The can address types uncertainties suggests designs across multiple evaluation criteria, such as financial costs supply service performance metrics. Using global city’s demonstration approach, we explore between long-term management plan’s infrastructure services (service resilience, reliability, vulnerability) its under demand uncertainty. set solutions consist investment plans are changing conditions. Results show lower net present value (NPV) needed investments up 18%, while maintaining similar other objectives. option delaying much possible approaches 14% total NPV.

Water resources planning under climate change: Assessing the robustness of real options for the Blue Nile

This article presents a methodology for planning new water resources infrastructure investments and operating strategies in a world of climate change uncertainty. It combines a real options (e.g., options to defer, expand, contract, abandon, switch use, or otherwise alter a capital investment) approach with principles drawn from robust decision-making (RDM). RDM comprises a class of methods tha...

Risk-incentives trade-off and outside options∗

Despite the prominence of the risk-incentives trade-off in the agency theory, empirical evidence provides at best a mixed result. In this paper, we argue that these mixed results may be attributed to the heterogeneity of risk aversion magnitude among the agents and the outside options available on the market. We show that when an increase of the uncertainty amplifies the riskiness of principal’...

Stochastic Congestion Alleviation with a Trade-off between Demand Response Resources and Load Shedding

Under the smart grid environments, Demand Response Resources (DRRs) as power system resources can effectively participate in and improve performance of electric systems. Congestion management is one of the technical challenges in which DRRs can play a significant role. Previously, congestion management is applied without considering the power system uncertainties. Therefore, a stochastic conges...

Resources, Real Options and Corporate Strategy

A ̄rm's resources are di±cult to identify and imitate. Firms learn about their resources by undertaking real investments and observing the outcomes. The types of real investments a ̄rm will make depends on what the ̄rm is expected to learn from the outcomes of these investments and the real options that are available for it to exploit in the future. We predict that ̄rms will follow a life-cycle...
